At Pelvic Soul, we are proud to highlight the work of inspiring professionals who are making a significant impact on their communities. Today, we’re excited to introduce Dr. Gabriella Carrigan, a therapist who specializes in chronic illness adjustment, postpartum health, and divorce support. Gabriella’s compassionate approach to therapy is rooted in personal experience, allowing her to connect deeply with her clients and offer the support they need during some of life’s toughest challenges.
Meet Dr. Gabriella Carrigan, PhD
Licensed Therapist, Tobacco Treatment Specialist

Dr. Gabriella Carrigan has an extensive background, with a particular focus on cancer survivorship and tobacco treatment. However, over time, her practice has evolved to meet the growing needs of her clients, particularly in the areas of chronic illness, divorce, and postpartum health. Many of Gabriella’s clients seek therapy for anxiety, relationship stress, and adjustment related to divorce or postpartum issues.
“Therapy in general is both trendy and stigmatized, which is kind of shocking in 2025.”
She explains that, especially for women, there is often hesitation in seeking help for issues such as postpartum mental health and divorce. Gabriella works to break down these barriers and normalize the need for therapy, which she sees as just one piece of the puzzle in a comprehensive healthcare approach.
A Personal Connection to Her Clients’ Journeys

What sets Gabriella apart is her own personal experiences, which fuel her passion for helping others through their struggles. “At the onset of my career, I was drawn to cancer care because of family experiences with diagnosis, and currently, my work with divorce and postpartum was inspired and directed by my own circumstances,” she shares. By drawing from her own life experiences, Gabriella is able to build deep, trusting relationships with her clients, offering them the support they need.
“Some therapists stay away from therapeutic issues that are close to home, but I find that I am able to connect more deeply with my clients’ journeys when there is personal understanding as well.”
A Safe Place for Women
One of the most exciting aspects of Gabriella’s work is her Postpartum Support Group, which is starting this month. Postpartum can be overwhelming, scary, and lonely, but it doesn’t have to be. Gabriella offers a supportive and safe space for new mothers to share their experiences, fears, and successes, surrounded by others who understand what they’re going through.
If you need extra support or simply a friendly face, Gabriella’s group might be the perfect place for you to find understanding and community during your motherhood journey.

Choosing the Right Therapist & Breaking the Stigma
Finding the right therapist is essential to a successful healing journey. Gabriella encourages her clients to seek a provider who aligns with their personal needs and comfort level. “It’s okay to fire a therapist if it’s not the right fit,” she says. “We work for you, and ultimately, we want what’s best for you.” Whether you prefer someone with a casual, self-disclosing style or a more clinical, structured approach, it’s important to choose a therapist whose methods resonate with you.
At the same time, seeking therapy can still carry stigma, especially when addressing difficult topics like chronic illness, divorce, or postpartum health. Gabriella reassures her clients that there is ZERO shame in seeking help. Therapy is about support, growth, and knowing you don’t have to navigate challenges alone.
“Chronic health, postpartum, and divorce are all tough to get through alone. You may feel like you can always be better, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t good enough now.”
