Building Your Village

Motherhood

Life prepares a woman for a lot of things – but one area that receives little attention is the emotional transition of one’s previous self to that of a Mother. While stepping into motherhood, most women experience an identity shift from being responsible for just their own needs, to caring for a beautiful, delicate new baby that is completely dependent on her for sustenance. This emotional evolution, along with the tremendous physical changes in the postpartum body and infant caregiving needs can leave a woman feeling lost at sea.

Enter the mythical “village” it takes to survive and thrive in motherhood, which most mothers in modern society are left to their own resources to find. As a new mother, I took it upon myself to build this village in Buffalo, NY – making a conscious effort to connect with other mothers to help me ease into the new adventure of Motherhood.
I soon found that sometimes self care looked like taking an hour out for myself each month to sit and chat with women about pregnancy, birth and mothering.

Come join us as we meet on the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of each month in a baby-friendly group, as we learn to build our own villages. More details here.
